A level of caution is necessary. Your safety is our number one priority and everything we do keeps safety in mind. From regular assessment of the weather/road/trail conditions to discussing appropriate daily objectives to being flexible and making changes as necessary.
Our guides manage significant hazards inherent in the mountains such as inclement weather, high winds, poor traction, rock / ice fall, and wildlife but they cannot eliminate them. Muddy Boots guides draw from their wealth of experience and training to make sound decisions that maximize your experience without compromising the necessary margin of safety. Please clearly understand that hiking, mountaineering, camping, fishing and all other mountain adventures are inherently hazardous sports. You are choosing to engage in an activity in which participants can be injured. While those accidents are indeed infrequent, they may occur at any time and be out of our control. We ask that participants acknowledge the risk and hazards of these sports, and make their own choices about whether or not to engage in these activities.
All participants must sign a waiver. Specific trips many require a Muddy Boots medical form to be completed, providing basic health information to ensure our guides are prepared for possible health risks in advance of heading into the woods. Muddy Boots provides both a required and a suggested gear list prior to all trips. For specific adventures we also provide nutrition guidelines to ensure you are fueled properly through extended and demanding outings. At the trailhead our guides provide a full gear shake down to certify all participants have necessary equipment, clothing, nutrition and hydration for a successful day. Guides may suggest removing unnecessary items and may add additional items as they see fit.
Muddy Boots, LLC is licensed by the State of New York and fully insured by Amsure Insurance.
Muddy Boots is able to accommodate all ages and skill levels with custom adventures. Our family friendly hikes are perfect for a variety of ages but recommended for well behaved children over age 8. Specialty custom trips can be arranged for children under 8 or those with special needs.
All participants under the age of 18 years of age will require a parent or legal guardian’s signature.
Though our guides are animal lovers, a majority of our adventures are not suited or safe for pets. Our Muddy Paws experiences are specially designed adventures for all breeds of dogs to enjoy a day in nature with their owners. We adjust experiences seasonally for optimal year-round paw fun.
Please note: The Adirondack Park requires dogs to be leashed in a majority of wilderness locations. Dogs must be active, well behaved, respond to verbal commands and manage meeting other hikers, dogs and wildlife on the trail. Owners will need to carry proper additional food, water and gear for weather conditions and must be willing to carry out all excrement in accordance with Leave No Trace Principles.
Muddy Boots reserves the right to cancel any dog related bookings due to weather deemed unsafe, including high heat or freezing temperatures.
*Please notify us at the time of booking if you have a service animal.
Health Conditions and Disabilities
We believe EVERYONE should be able to experience the beauty of the mountains and are happy to accommodate folks with health conditions and disabilities by adjusting and customizing trip lengths and difficulty to meet your needs. Please inquire prior to booking so we can design the perfect outing for you.
Muddy Boots does not offer transportation. Parking in the Adirondack Park can be limited and sometimes difficult to access. Depending upon the trip selected, our guides meet guests directly at the trailhead or at a variety of meeting spots. From there, you will caravan to the trailhead. Occasionally for difficult access trailheads requiring a truck or 4 wheel drive, our guides may accommodate up to 3 guests in transport from a meet up location to the trailhead and back. Meeting locations are provided upon confirmation of booking. For private bookings we consider the client’s base location to be most efficient.
Muddy Boots takes nutrition seriously. For half day and day adventures, meals or snacks are not included. However, we do provide a helpful recommendation list of snacks, meals, hydration and overall calorie needs suited to the duration and intensity of the outing.
For overnight trips we provide ample breakfast and dinner appropriate for the activity and location. We offer a wide array of standard backpacking food, including dehydrated dinner pouches, dried fruits, nuts, granola bars and oatmeal. We throw fresh fruits and veggies in the pack for snacks when appropriate and there is always chocolate or treats for after dinner. We never forget the coffee for breakfast!
For traverse, ultra and thru hikes Muddy Boots provides a pre-adventure recommendation and tips list designed to prepare your body for success on the trails.
Please let us know of dietary restrictions and preferences in advance. We are happy to accommodate when possible. Each participant is required to carry their own foods and liquids through out the adventure.
